Knowing what's best for your oral hygiene can be confusing. At Hyalite Dental Surgery, we are here to help you with sound advice and treatments, including our handy FAQ below.

If you have a specific question in mind and you don't see it below, please contact our team today.
Based in Larrakeyah, we see patients from throughout Darwin, helping them maintain the health of their teeth and gums.

We look after all general and cosmetic dentistry for people of all ages.
  • Will my treatment hurt?

This is one of our most asked questions before a treatment. Our dental team aims to make your treatment as comfortable as possible for you. With our on-site sedation facilities, we're able to provide anaesthesia when required. If you are concerned about pain during or after treatment, please talk to your dentist as they are more than happy to answer any questions.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

At Hyalite Dental, we accept most payment methods, including Visa, Mastercard, AMEX (no fee), cash, cheque and EFT. We are also a preferred treatment provider for Medibank, Bupa, Nib and CBHS. We also offer Zip Money, which is a buy now pay later way to be treated with no interest for 6-12 months.

  • I have a cavity. Should I get a crown or filling?

If you have a cavity, please make an appointment with our dentist. We will assess the severity of the cavity and provide you with our recommendation. Fillings are generally used for smaller hollows, while crowns provide more stability for larger cavities.

  • Will having my teeth cleaned make them white?

The purpose of having your teeth professionally cleaned is to help keep your gums healthy. While cleaning will reduce any stains on your teeth, we recommend booking in for a teeth whitening treatment if making them whiter is your goal.

  • I absolutely hate visiting the dentist. What can I do before to help me relax?

We understand! At Hyalite Dental, we regularly work with patients who are anxious about visiting the dentist. Our dental team are friendly and caring. If you let them know you are feeling anxious, they will help you feel more comfortable with your treatment

  • When should I bring my child in for their first visit?

It is recommended that children have their first dental check-up at one year of age, unless an issue occurs prior to their first birthday. If you have any concerns, our dental team are happy to assist you..

  • How often should I visit the dentist?

Even if you have pristine oral health, we recommend you visit us every six months for a check-up and routine clean. This will help us to catch any minor problems before they become more serious.

  • What is considered a dental emergency?

Any situation where you have ongoing bleeding around your gums or have severe pain in your mouth, please call our emergency after-hours number.

  • Should I use a standard or electric toothbrush?

The most important part is that you use a toothbrush. Our dentist will be able to advise you what type of toothbrush is best suited to your needs. We can also show you the best way to brush and floss.

  • How can I keep up my oral hygiene in between visits to the dentist?

Great question! Everyone knows brushing and flossing daily is important for the health of your teeth and gums. Did you know avoiding sugar and tobacco, eating a healthy, balanced diet and using products that contain fluoride will also help maintain your oral hygiene? If you want to keep your teeth whiter for longer, we also recommend avoiding coffee and red wine, or drinking them with a straw.
